The Wall Feature

Has anyone else tried out playing with their wall (visitors messages)?  If so let me know I'd like to go see what you are using it for.

I'm using mine for all little snippets of info for fun.

I noticed that I'm getting your crap, rofl.  Go mess your own wall up woman.

I found it very confusing when I first saw the walls.  

On the profiles the tab is called, Visitor Messages.  I kept looking at it thinking.  Does that mean I am meant to leave messages for my visitors or is it so they can leave messages for me?

Anyway as you know I checked it out by posting one on my wall then going over to yours and posting on yours.

Then there is the url.  The url says "wall" at the end of it.  So why does the tab say Visitor Messages?

Now, when I posted my test post on mine, I tested out the "Hide" button, assuming that "Hide" would then turn into "Show".  But no.  Click hide and the message seems to be totally deleted.

So off I went to their help forums to read up on what the walls are all about.

Seemingly they haven't been a feature for long.  At some point a member requested that we have somewhere that visitors can leave us a message like on myspace or such.  The techs thought good idea and developed it calling it literally "Visitor Messages".

Now people are asking for the tab to be changed to either "Wall" or "Comments" - The powers that be seem to be turning a deaf ear to this.

As for the "Hide" and "Delete" buttons.  Click delete and it is totally wiped from the system.  Click hide and the post is moved to the system's archives and can only be got at by a tech.  People are also complaining this is dumb too.

I'm trying to figure a way to hide the hide button so that it doesn't confuse people as it did me.

Ahhh it sounds like they added features to keep the crowd happy but have not anything else with those features lol.

After a lot of testing and people in the Help forums knowing sod all, I have discovered how it all works.

There are so many posts in there asking about "where does my post go when I hide it as there is no show button" - and they are getting the answer that it goes in the systems archives and can only be got at by a technician.

For crying out loud.  All those members of staff and not one of them knew the answer.

I think I've seen 2 staff members there ones and the rest was volunteers so if they themselves have not used or come across those features then that makes sense lol.

Yes, I agree.  They don't often have real staff in there.  It's all volunteers.

I've just discovered there is a setting that allows you to choose who can post on your wall or if you just want to have it for your own postings.

It's the third choice down in your "Preference" settings in edit profile.

I've set mine to nobody as I am using it for my quotes and facts so only I can post on it.
